Matt finished laying floor tile in the first floor mudroom, laundry room, and bath. The photo below shows the finished mosaic tile in the bathroom and the nice transition to the hallway floor tile. He will now turn his attention to shower base in the bathroom and the mudroom wash area.

Carpentry…More Details
The Solid Construction carpentry crew’s progress this week really shows on the first floor of the “L” Shaped House. The whole place feel much more refined with the doors hung and window trim installed. The photo below is a (slightly warped) view of the kitchen and dining room that will soon be filled with cabinets.
The two photos here show many of the details of the first floor window trim. All of the windows are getting stools and aprons and 3 1/2” wide casings. The double hung windows have stools that extend to the molding at the bottom edge of the inner sash while the casement stools extend beyond just the existing window sills.

Sheet Rock…Basement Prep 2
Paul and his crew have been preparing the basement of the “L” Shaped House for sheet rock all week. The fireplace framing is now complete and has passed inspection. The photo below shows the new fireplace framing and sheet rock as well as the additional blocking added to the bedroom wall.
The next photo shows the opposite corner of the family room where a slip-in media cabinet will be installed. We are taking full advantage of the foundation wall depth by sheet rocking the exterior wall to make a cavity for the bookshelf. The last photo shows the progress in the basement bathroom. The dividing wall between the shower and toilet is framed and blocking for towel bars is installed in the walls.

Cabinetry…Day 1
In addition to the doors and window trim…the Solid Construction crew is also installing the cabinets in the “L” Shaped House. They have quite a few of the base cabinets Great Woods delivered yesterday installed. The first photo shows the base cabinet in the master bathroom.
The next photo shows the base cabinet under the windows at the back wall of the living room. This drawer cabinet forms the window seat and will include bookcases at each end. The last photo shows the base cabinet in the first floor laundry room. There is a 32” Lazy Susan in the corner, a sink at the far right, and a double trash bin in the space in-between.

Carpentry…Day 4
The Solid Construction crew has started hanging doors and installing trim on the first floor in earnest. They are also setting the cabinets that were delivered yesterday afternoon. The first photo shows the pocket doors at the entrance to the first floor laundry with the base cabinet installed along the outside wall. The next photo shows the window trim details on the laundry room window. This is one of two casement windows in the house and receives a little different sill treatment.
The last photo shows the kitchen and dining room from the foyer at the front door with a new sub-floor installed. Paul is putting down a 3/8” plywood underlayment everywhere the cork flooring will be installed to get all the flooring surfaces at the same elevation. An added benefit of this approach is a very solid feel.

Ceramic Tile…Day 18
Matt Sletten continues his ceramic tile work on the main floor of the “L” Shaped House. He has almost all of the 12” floor tile laid and will start working in the first floor bath and mudroom shortly. The first photo shows the floor tile just outside the laundry room doorway with one section of the cork flooring we will use in the kitchen placed next to it.
The next photo shows the 12” floor tile as it spills out thru the mudroom door into the breezeway entry. The tile flooring is especially difficult to capture in these photographs…It looks much nicer in person.

Cabinetry…Day 0
The Great Woods cabinetry folks delivered the first load of cabinets to the “L” Shaped House today. They pulled up right at noon with a trailer full of cabinets and started to distribute them all around the house. The photo below shows the guys carrying one of the bookcase cabinets for the end wall of the living room up the front steps.

Carpentry…Day 4
The Solid Construction guys have just about finished up their work on the second floor. The photo below shows the inside of Helen’s room and a view across the hallway into Anna’s. The doors are all hung and the trim installed as well as the baseboard at the floor.
The next photo shows a close up of the trim elements at the door to the hallway in Helen’s room.

Carpentry…Day 3
Dan from Solid Construction continues to work on the front staircase as the the rest of his crew hangs doors and installs trim on the second floor. The first two photos show the front stairs with almost all the exposed treads and risers in place. The circuitous path of the first flight handrail is the consequence of strict compliance to the building codes (not necessarily style).
The next photo shows the railing assembly as it climbs the upper flight of stairs to the book nook and dies into the wall on the right. The handrail and newel posts will be stained & varnished while the balusters will be painted with white enamel.
The last two photos show some of the progress taking place upstairs. The first shows the hallway leading to the laundry room with bedroom and attic doors hung and trim installed. The two hall closets opposite the kids bathroom are shown in the last photo. Each closet has a pair of three panel bypass doors and are trimmed just like the rest of the doors and windows.

Carpentry…Day 2
The Solid Construction crew continued the finish carpentry work in the “L” Shaped House today. In the first two photos we see that Dan has the first flight of stairs nearly complete and is about half way up the second with treads and risers. The stairs look great and feel really solid.
The last photo shows the windows and small attic door in Helen’s room. The Solid crew has been busy installing trim in all of the second floor bedrooms.
