Jay and his landscaping crew are making great strides at the “L” Shaped House. I stopped in around noon to find four landscaping projects underway all at once.
First; the Jay has the driveway roughed in all the way to the street out front. He has the set the grade across the front of the garage, and has established the “watershed” (high spot) along the side of the house just in front of the breezeway entrance. The photo below shows the view of the new driveway from the upstairs laundry room. They are delivering small loads of black dirt for plantings with each trip back to the shop.
The video shows Jay in action as he loads out some of the rock that stabilized the front yard during the monsoons of last fall.
All of this digging has produced a new pile of dirt in the front yard most of which will be used to fill in the old driveway as the work continues. The second project underway is the laying of plastic edging that will serve to separate the different areas of the landscaping plan. The edging seen in the next photo will essentially circle the house when completed (a couple of times)!
The next three photos show the third project underway…the PVC gutter drain system along the front of the garage. The main 4” pipe is being installed two feet off the front edge of the garage slab and turns out toward the back corner of the lot between the third and fourth stalls.
Each of the (three) downspouts along the front of the garage will drain into a leaf guard debris filter connected to the 4” PVC drain. The pipe will carry the water under the driveway out to the hill beyond the back yard. The system is meant to help minimize runoff into the surrounding storm sewers and retain some of the water for the back yard plants.
The last photo shows the progress being made on the paver patio and dog run outside the back breezeway deck. Jay and his crew have finished setting the grade in this area and have started installing the limestone base on top of the landscaping fabric. They plan to be installing pavers here as early as tomorrow!
