Footings…Day 4.5 (Sunday)

The Sunday noon report…The forms look like they are all set. Sam and I took these close up shots of the places where the new footings will meet the old foundation. The top photo shows the cavity prepared for the crawl space footing where it joins the East wall at the old ash box. There will be a large footing under the connection point, reinforcing rods bent at 90 degrees (not shown) will be placed in the holes and the existing walls will be filled with concrete. The middle photos show forms for the footings that will underpin the basement walk-out wall. When these “columns” are filled with concrete they will provide a really solid footing for the back wall of the house. The bottom photo shows the front basement wall footing connecting to the old foundation.

As the forms take shape and the “plan” becomes more evident my confidence rises…but I have to admit that I will be a whole lot happier as the work gets above the ground.
