Landscaping…Day 6

By noon today Andy and his guys had the upper wall set and about half the modular blocks installed. The first two photos below show the the tedious backfilling and compacting operations. They run the flat plate compactor over the fill every 6 inches and add clear rock behind the wall.

The second photo has Andy using the mini excavator blade to move dirt to the edge while the guys control where it goes one shovel full at a time. The third photo shows the two walls…full on. The upper wall gets four more courses and a cap. The 2  3/4” thick pavers will just about cover the first course of block of the lower wall. The lower wall will have 6 exposed courses and a cap the top 7.

The last photo shows some of the details of the wall construction and back filling. The permeable landscaping cloth separates the soil from the clear rock ensuring that water can flow freely through the wall. The area between the two walls has been filled with black dirt to provide a bed for plantings.
