Landscaping…Day 7 (evening report)

Andy and his crew made enough exciting changes this afternoon to warrant an evening report. The first photo shows most of the progress in a shot taken from the second floor hallway. Andy and Kevin are working on the boulder wall while David is is setting the first course of modular blocks at the end of the patio. The giant load of boulders delivered this morning are strewn about the back edge of the yard. Andy is carefully picking through the boulders as he and Kevin start the wall at the back of the house. The semi-circular wall David is building is going to die into the two large boulders already placed at the ends.

In the video Andy shows off his precision driving skills as he precisely places the first out-cropping boulder in the hill behind the wall.

The next photo is a panoramic shot taken right outside the walk-out door looking out at the patio and beyond. Here we see the new boulder wall on the left and the semi-circular block wall at the end of the patio. The circular block wall is at full height (minus the cap) and will be carefully fitted to the two boulders standing at the ends. We are purposely leaving a gap between boulders on the left as the “out-croppings” start up the grade. The 4’ opening on the right (the big rock will be moved) marks the start of the system of paths we intend to install throughout the back yard. This path will “wind” up into the back yard from the patio and be filled with ball diamond dust (finely crushed red limestone).

Deb and I decided to use Anchor Kingston pavers in North Oaks (color). The photo below shows the pavers laid out below the block wall. I think the whole plan is coming together great and the different materials and colors are going to look awesome together!
