Paul Winters has been working on the hearth for the living room fireplace for the last couple of days. The first photo shows the template he cut from a piece of cardboard in place below the gas fireplace. We used the template to help finalize the size and shape of the hearth and Paul sent it along with the order for the Indiana limestone from Hedberg Landscape & Masonry.
The next two photos show the framing Paul has constructed to support the limestone hearth. The second shows a close up of the support structure with a sample of the limestone material in place under the front edge of the gas fireplace. The fireplace wall beneath the mantel and the returns to the wall will be faced with cultured stone (Mountain Ledgestone) from Eldorado Stone.
We hope the finished fireplace will look something like the sketch I put together as we made our plans for the living room…Actually I think it is going to look a lot better!
