The Fireplace…Mantel installation

Paul Winters went to work installing the mantel in the living room this afternoon. The first photo shows the mantel in place on the wall above the fireplace. Paul added some robust blocking between the studs in the wall and secured the mantel from behind using lag screws in addition to a generous helping of construction glue. The ends will “return” to the back wall just below the electrical outlets (yet to be installed) on each end of the fireplace. The front face and sides of the fireplace beneath the mantel assembly will be covered with a cultured ledge stone product from Eldorado stone (see the plan here).

The second photo is a “straight-on” shot of the fireplace and mantel from the center of the living room. This gives a pretty good sense of the scale and proportions of the mantel.
