Painting…The Distressed White Cabinetry

True to his word…Steve Carmichael delivered a first sample of a “distressed” white cabinet door this morning. Deb and I plan to spend some time this weekend with the sample as we help decide how Steve and his guys will apply the distressed finish to the cabinets in the kitchen and first floor laundry. This sample was finished by brushing brown glaze on the white enamel and then immediately wiping with a cloth. They control the effect by wiping more or less of the glaze away and the “antique” look by allowing the glaze to build up in the corners. Steve sprayed a clear coat of lacquer over the glaze on the sample and plans to clear coat the cabinets using a water based polyurethane. The photo here is a pretty good reproduction of the real thing…but it is of course difficult to get it perfect. I’m guessing we will ask him to “tone it down” a little and produce a second sample door.
